Phenomenon "Kick It" Three-Finger Ring: Japanese label Phenomenon’s latest delivery includes this interesting three-finger ring. Shaped like a single piece of the popular Kit Kat chocolate bar, the ring is embossed with the phrase “Kick It” in the expected font. Nike Air Zoom Talache Mid Black Leather: The Nike Air Zoom Talache is an odd member of the Nike family. Neither a full on performance shoe, nor a lifestyle shoe, it doesn’t even have a swoosh! Nonetheless, this black tumbled leather mid top is one of the nicest we’ve seen. The combination of a vulcanized Zoom Air midsole and tonal colorway once again does wonders for Nike’s Talache. Garbstore Fall 2009 "General Public" Collection: One of our favorite brands, Garbstore, have been pushing the whole vintage workwear aesthetic for years. This time focusing more heavily on outerwear, designer Ian Paley presents his best collection to date. Items include detail-oriented parkas and chore coats, as well as simpler flannel shirts and crewneck fleece. With a refined attention to cut and material, and many years in the game, Garbstore offers an attractive, authentic product. Definitely still one of our top brands to watch for Fall 2009 and beyond. Huf Professional Skateboard Legend Series: Huf recruited five professional skateboard legends, who are also talented artists, to create a summer skateboard series. Lance Mountain, Nata Kaupas, Tommy Guerrero, Steve Olson and Mark Gonzales were each given carte blanche (the only parameters given were that the artwork be in black and white) to create their own Huf deck, right down to the shape. Decks were produced in limited runs of 100 to 150, with each board being hand-screened, laser numbered and laser signed. A matching t-shirt featuring all five signatures was also released. Ransom by adidas Originals Collection Preview: After seeing some exciting sample images, we now have a brief look at the full Ransom x adidas Originals Collection. Based on iconic cultural references that blend the Ransom brand’s Northern heritage with the market leading know-how of adidas Originals, the extensive collection of all-new models was inspired by heritage brands such as Sorel, Red Wing, and the vintage workwear idea. With a mixture of bold monotone and muted monotones in the collection, the color palette represents Ransom’s fall direction. We also see plenty of attention to detail throughout, with stitching and embossed logos. Models include the Creek, Pier (pictured above,) Dune, Valley, and Summit – making for a great mixture of casual and more rugged styles that work well in the current sneaker world. This is definitely one of the most interesting projects of the year and we can’t wait to have a more detailed look. Hectic Spring/Summer 2009 Fitted & 5-Panel Caps: Japanese label realMad Hectic have released several new cap styles as part of their Spring/Summer 2009 collection. First up is the Textile Fitted which features a small Polo-esque bicycle embroidery overtop of a strong plaid cotton that matches up with previously released t-shirts and shorts. This fitted comes in two plaid colorways – orange or brown based. The second release is a 5-panel cap, overall kept very simple with only a single point of branding by way of a logo-tab. The material choices are blue or grey oxford cotton, or a choice of two different washed, greyscale jungle camos. Now in stock at Hectic. Bread & Butter Berlin: Reebok Spring/Summer 2010 Court Victory Pump: We already gave you a pretty extensive preview of the Reebok Spring/Summer 2010 Collection the other day. Today we returned to the Reebok booth at Bread & Butter and bring you some more looks for next year. The Court Victory Pump comes in a series of classic colorways. Bread & Butter Berlin: Reebok x Uslu Airlines Spring/Summer 2010 Sneakers: Another interesting project was revealed at this summer’s Bread & Butter tradeshow – a collaboration with Uslu Airlines. The Berlin based nail polish brand previously worked with Nike on the Air Force 1 as part of the 1World project. With Reebok they worked on two high top sneakers for Spring/Summer 2010 and the least one can say, is that they got creative. The Retroball comes in a silver disco ball look all over the upper. The tongue features a Uslu Airlines logo tag and a large strap goes around the ankle. The lining and lace eyelets come in red. Of course they are bringing out a matching nail polish with it, featuring squared silver pieces in it and was branded with the airline code BAL. The second sneaker is the Cortney Mid, which at first seems very simple, but reveals lots of details and graphics once it gets dark. The entire upper is glow-in-the-dark. Atmos x Medicom Toy Bearbrick Sets: Atmos worked with Medicom on two Bearbrick sets, each consisting of of a 400% and a 100% Bearbrick. One of the sets comes in white with a star design and the other one comes in a glow-in-the-dark version, featuring the same upper design. Both carry a bold Atmos logo on the front. Bread & Butter Berlin: Camo Spring/Summer 2010 Collection: Italian brand Camo has already impressed us at the last Bread & Butter tradeshow and this time we passed by again and really liked what we saw. The line is growing and continues to attract eyes with smart details and twists on their clothing. The Spring/Summer 2010 Collection consists of nice knitwear pieces, shorts, ties, pants, t-shirts and more. We definitely see the brand next to Wood Wood, Vibskov and such and hope to see them in more stores soon. The collection is made in Italy and thus high in quality. HUF Skateboard Legend Series Decks: HUF asked 5 professional skateboard legends, who are also talented artists, to create a Summer Board Series for HUF. The only parameters they gave them was to create black and white artwork, other than that, it was entirely up to the artist. Each board is hand-screened, laser numbered and laser signed. Custom shapes were specified by each skater with each board being limited to 125 pieces (Steve Olsen 100 and Mark Gonzalez 150). Retailing for $60 a piece, all five are now available in limited quantities at HUF San Francisco and LA, along with a commemorative t-shirt. © L.A. swagger x Nike Sportswear Terminator Hi Supreme Sneakers: Ollie Magazine offers a closer look into the collaboration between Japanese streetwear label swagger and Nike Sportswear. The kicks, celebrating the brands 10th Anniversary, feature a reptilian tonal finish with a mis-matched color scheme, inspired by mint chocolate. Nike Air Tech Challenge Hybrid Black/Tiffany: Following up on a couple of retro-geared colorways, Nike unveils a more contemporary black/tiffany rendition of their Air Tech Challenge Hybrid. The kicks feature a mostly black based with patent leather and tiffany accents, fusing four generations of Andre Agassi signature models into one. [NEW RELEASE] ADIDAS HISTORY PACK: Adidas continues to celebrate its sixtieth anniversary in style with the release of the History Pack, in which some of the brand’s most recognizable silhouettes have been recreated with features drawn from the adidas archive. Comprised of a Superstar, Stan Smith, Samba, Nizza and Forum, each shoe boasts a suede sockliner and an embroidered Herzogenaurach patch to commemorate the birthplace of the brand. The pack is comprised of a Xander and Sector 7 from DC’s LIFE collection, each with a premium pigskin trim and an icy-clear sole to match to cool angular pattern on the upper. The artwork is underlined by a subtle political message: Dubbed “Non Merci”, the Sixpack collection draws from inspirations that cross political borders, embrace impossible love and yet harbor deep feelings. [NEW RELEASE] NIKE AIR MAXIM: Nike Sportswear's newest release has a very familiar look about it. The Air Maxim updates the classic OG Air Max 1, loading it with the latest in technical innovation to bring its performance into the new millennium.“We took the original Air Max 1 design brief and ran it through a present-day filter,” says Nike Sportswear Design Director Jesse Leyva. “We tried to solve the very same problems Tinker Hatfield did with the technology of that time, using the technologies and Nike sporting innovations of today and tomorrow.”Like Hatfield, Leyva and his design team focused on lightweight stability and cushioning. The result is a staggering 66% weight reduction from the original, with the Air Maxim coming in at a mere 10.1 ounces. Nike - Nike Tech Challenge Hybrid Unreleased Sample: Nike’s hybrids have received some mixed reviews till now, but these Air Tech Challenge Hybrid samples should resolve some cynics’ qualms for now. For this model of the Air Tech Challenge Hybrid, one of Nike’s classics, Andre Agassi’s pro model tennis shoes, the Air Tech Challenge line, is adopted into the shoe. For this release, there are three different colorways with the first two paying tribute to the original. The third colorway as seen here is a cool mint/black number that has mint green splatter accents and piping at all the right places. Nike - Jordan Girls Flight 45 GS: Nike’s Jordan Brand is venturing into the concept of fusion once again with a new girl’s sneaker, Jordan Girls Flight 45. This model is reminiscent of Air Jordan 3. It features white leather with patent leather upper accentuated by pink lining and speckled pink and techno blue midsoles. The sole stitching in the front is also in pink while the bottom of the soles are in the same techno blue and features the Jordan logo. Nike - Air Max 95 - Unreleased Sample: Unlike the released version of Nike Air Max 95, this unreleased version spotted here have 3M lace hoops which gives the kicks an extra spotlight and shine in the dark. Other than the neon mint colored laces and lace hoops, the rest of the Air Max 95 remain rather classic and subdued in a gradient of black and grey leather and white nylon uppers. The logo tag on the tongue also has a mint pipping embroidery along the edge to compliment the rest of the shine. Commune de Paris, 1871 - Spring/Summer 2010 Collection: New Parisian label, Commune de Paris, 1871, is incepted with the concept of revolution to bring back humanist values and react against oppression, inequality and exploitation of works back in 1871. The label reinterprets historical values from that year into a range of apparel and accessories, reworking French revolutionary symbols into modern and refined clothing. The label’s Spring/Summer 10 collection was displayed at (capsule) and is a joint design effort between Julien Langendorff, Munchausen and David Herman Dune. A great collection of basic button downs with hidden plackets, printed totes, tees and wallpapers with meticulous portrait sketching and running motif of fire, the overall vibe is a little nostalgic yet newly energetic. Nike - Fall/Winter 2009 - Blazer Hi Collection: Out of the eleven models that can be anticipated for the new Fall/Winter 09 Nike Blazer Hi release, four of them we are previewing here are out-of-the-box creative yet very wearable. An fresh selection of materials and color combination are sported on these four models. We see a grey suede number with the signature Swoosh made out of perforations and the toe is put together by a vertical stitching of the grey suede and smooth leather that reminds us of a moccasin toe. The other models are much flashier and flamboyant as one sports a green reptile skin upper with red laces combination in a very Amazon jungle fashion; another is futuristic with a silver leather upper and contrasting yellow laces; last but not least from the four models we see is a techno blue number with white laces and royal purple accent. The styles we see for now are bright but diverse. Christopher Kane - Chimp Jersey T-Shirt: Most of the time, men’s print t-shirts just have better looking designs and it makes us wonder, why should boys have all the fun? Finally, one of our favorite designers for mind-bogglingly captivating graphic prints has released a great print t-shirt of with a flattering cut and length, and of course, a cool print for t-shirt loving girls out there. Christopher Kane’s Chimp Jersey T-shirt features a generous portrait print of an angry chimpanzee, taking up the entire front of the tee, and some fun hairy photographic details in the back. This reminds us of the souvenir tees at zoos but with so much more spunk and style. The cut is fitted and elongated so it is perfect with skinny jeans or leggings. Christmas in July Part II….: First priority for the day : Change my business cards. I got a call from Fed-Ex on Monday from a Customer Service dude notifying me that I had a package sent to Satellite Beach, Florida that was undeliverable. My business cards are over two years old. We haven’t used the listed addy for at least the past year…. Rather than have the box returned to sender, Steve had it forwarded to his new place down in nearby Key Largo. When he mentioned who Fed-Ex said the sender was…I had never heard the name before. What it could be? NO CLUE. Sure enough….the mystery box showed up at Steve’s this morning…and he captured a quick video of the unveiling for us…. Turns out Zac and I both lucked out big time… Now it’s time to get those new cards done up…

Copper Nike Air Foamposite One Retro: words_Nick DePaula When the Sole Collector team interviewed Penny Hardaway last fall in Memphis for our 25th Issue, we got to learn a great deal about his sneaker knowledge and involvement with Nike. Unlike some athletes, Penny was truly invested in the direction of his signature line during the 1990’s, and in entrusting the design mastermind that is Eric Avar with his footwear, he never once feared that his shoes wouldn’t offer the most in terms of both looks and performance. During the interview, he was pretty honest about his feelings towards the digital camo Penny IV Retro, which he described with a laugh as “freaky.” Afterwards, I asked him what colorways he wished Nike would try out on some of his shoes, and he immediately said, “A real Penny color. Copper, like a penny.” When I mentioned the whole account a few months later to the two fellas at Nike who are tasked with planning out which shoes to retro and in what colorways, they looked at each other and giggled like schoolgirls. “You don’t say,” one said with a smirk. Sure enough, a Foamposite One in Black/Copper had been in the works already, and it will see a release during the Spring of 2010 that will be comparable to this year’s Eggplant Foamposite One drop, which retailed for $200. Penny Hardaway is surely smiling somewhere… Penny holding the Foamposite One in its most memorable colorway at his home last fall…
Failures In Sneaker History : Nike Ovidian: words_Nick DePaula I’ll be completely honest, I had no idea this shoe was even made. Maybe I’d seen it right around the turn of the millennium and have made every effort since to remove it from my memory, but in fact the Nike Ovidian was a real shoe that actually released. Surprisingly bad indeed. As embarassing as it would seem to most, I really do often sit around and talk about shoes with friends in my spare time, as they’re all invested in the sneaker industry in some capacity as well. Naturally the conversation got to awful concepts that never made it, and the Ovidian was brought up by withholder-of-useless-information-extraordinaire Ira. In the fall of 2000, Nike introduced the Ovidian to the ever-unreceptive market, proclaiming it a “3-in-1 shoe” that boasted versatility as its main selling point. The shoe, priced at $85, appeared to offer a skate or performance use at first glance, and by removing the insole, flipping the shoe inside-out and re-inserting the inner bootie, the shoe could also become a more casual option with its more toned down outsole design. The performance side featured a leather and suede upper and waffle traction outsole, while the casual flip relied on simple mesh. In a bit of a reach, Nike also claimed the removable bootie could serve as a third option, taking on the role of shoes like the Aqua Racer and other neoprene based slip-ons. Named after the poem “Metamorphoses,” penned by ancient poet Ovid, the unisex sneaker didn’t feature any visual Swoosh logos. As you may recall, it took Nike a few missteps before figuring out the “action sports” category. The concept is certainly counterintuitive to Nike’s unabashed goal of selling as many shoes as possible, but rather than catch on, the mildly branded and entirely forgettable sneaker has vanished from literally everyone’s memory, if they even recall seeing it the first time around at all. I hadn’t apparently. With “the economy” in its current state, would a 2-in-1 or even a 3-in-1 sneaker have a place in today’s market? Is it possible the Ovidian was…..ahem….ahead of its time? It’s certainly a practical option for most, and would seemingly have more legs with the kids market, as an extended life via a secondary outsole would likely entice most parents. I have just one request : If something similar were to return, it better not be this damn ugly. Conveniently, the Ovidian included an instruction manual as well. Steps of course that include: 1. Removing the laces from the shoe 2. Removing the insole/bootie 3. Flipping the shoe inside out 4. Re-inserting the insole/bootie 5. Re-lacing the shoe OUCH. Estimated time of switch — at least five minutes. Note: “Failures In Sneaker History” is purposefully brutally honest! The intent is simply to look back at concepts that never caught on, as not every post can be glowing with positivity.
Are YOU planning to grab any Kanye x LV sneakers?: words_Nick DePaula At an astounding $215 retail and resell value nearing $700, the Nike Air Yeezy certainly tested everyone’s wallets (and Paypal debit cards…) earlier this summer, selling out nationwide instantly and confirming Kanye’s stranglehold over everyone’s “individual” style. During the timeline in which the three colorways of the Air Yeezy dropped, West was working simultaneously with Louis Vuitton and their Creative Director Marc Jacobs on a line of sneakers for the high fashion brand, inspired by the movie Dune with its high-reaching protruding heel. With prices ranging from $840-$1140, it would appear that the Kanye West for Louis Vuitton collection is a bit out of the price range of the everyday sneakerhead….but are YOU planning on breaking the bank for a pair this summer? Exclusive Gatorade Cooler 4 of 23: There is nothing like getting a box in the mail and having no idea what is in it. A big box from Gatorade was delivered a few hours ago so yeah – today is one of those Christmas in July days. And with a big “23″ on the side of the box I knew it had to be something good. Usually when a box like this comes it is a few pairs of shoes – but this box was way too heavy for that. The dude that dropped it off even asked if I ordered a few cases of Gatorade because it was that heavy. (you can talk about it at this link: http://www.solecollector.com/forums/exclusive-gatorade-cooler ) I brought the box inside and thought I’d photograph each step – glad I did because there were multiple items in the box…. You know I like the 4 of 23 written on the outside of the box. Then. Now. Forever. 23. A pretty sick cooler – and it is pretty heavy. There is a really nice lasered hang tag with #4 of 23 on it. Inside the Gatorade cooler there are two levels. One is a really nice foamed case with four Gatorade bottles and the other is a set of two bottles with a towel and a leather Gatorade case. The four bottles of Gatorade are in a really nice foam case with MJ’s sig. In a nice leather case there was pretty smooth Portable Reader by Sony. It said hit button 8 for a message from MJ. The message was indeed from MJ and talked about the history of MJ and Gatorade. Here are the bottles – each one has a pretty good photo of MJ and one has one of his Michael Jordan Motor Sports bikes. Vans 'Stories Of Sole' Book: Vans have just released their new book ‘Stories Of Sole’. Starting as a skateboarding shoe company, Vans has since created a cult following to their brand that surrounds around a certain lifestyle and philosophy. ‘Stories Of Sole’ has captured their involvement in that scene from the last decade which has the book acting as a sort of retrospective to the brand. Steve Van Doren, the son of the founder of Vans sees the book as a timeline for the brand of Vans through hours of nostalgic skateboarding, BMX riding, music and fashion. Huf Professional Skateboarders Series: Huf has asked five professional skateboard legends to each create a summer skateboard for their Professional Skateboard Series. All also being great artists, the five consist of Lance Mountain, Nata Kaupas, Tommy Guerrero, Steve Olson and Mark Gonzales. Each given an outline of ‘only black and white’, the legends were given freedom to design right down to the shape of their boards. With a limited run in production each board has been laser numbered and signed and come with a matching tee from the artists with their personal signatures. Available now at Huf. Images HS
Phillip Lim Fall/Winter 2009 Collection: The recently shown Fall preview in New York Fashion Week from Phillip Lim really put things in perspective. Lim’s perception on today’s young man is embellished shirts, monotone colors and essential pieces. By adding extra panels and finished details on both jackets and pants pockets., Lim was able to keep his short boxed fit and induce his avant garde into casual. Extended cardigans, simple contrast lapels, tapered sweats and belt less peacoats make every piece openly compatible with anything in the collection. Although visually this season is a little of the beaten path for Lim his focus lead to an amazing season. Garbstore Fall/Winter 2009 Collection: In keeping with trend, Garbstore, previously known for it’s traditional mens wear lines has now taken a slight turn and headed down a more outer wear direction. With creator Ian Paley stating that it's unforuntate that ‘made in China’ carries a bad wrap, as there is a lot of great manufacturing factories in the country, he ensures that his products have had huge amounts of attention to detail before they are even made. Having teamed up with The City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program and Studio Gangsta the NYC based artist is preparing “A Love Letter Written By Steve Powers.” A series of works which will see a number of rooftops of West Philadelphia feature Steve Powers’ work come September.
adidas Skateboarding Mark Gonzalez Ciero Mid: We just mentioned Mark Gonzales upcoming show at Hope Gallery(see details here), but the Skater/Artist/Icon has also been busy at work, developing new products with adidas for his ongoing skate line. Mark, featured in Issue 01 of The New Order, has a particular style, one which transpires into an ability to create some of the best shoes for adidas’ skateboarding line, including this new Ciero Mid. WK Interact Printed Matter at Jonathan Levine: As you know, WK Interact’s latest exhibition is on show at New York’s Jonathan Levine Gallery. During this busy season, not only is it hard for those outside of NYC to get to the show, but maybe even a miss for those living in NYC who might be travelling. Spring 2010 Nike Lunar Racer, Lunar Swift, Lunar Elite, et al: I'm not sure about the release dates, but here are pics of the new Lunar racing series: Nike Lunar Elite: Replaces the current zoom elite. So has the lunarlite system with its 'dynamic support' rather than the normal medial posting and has the flywire and no sew as can be seen in the pics. The sample that I saw also has these little rubbery dots at the back of the heel to prevent slippage I assume..also saw these dot on an early sample of the lunar...
